Project Overview
Tarweej delivered a heritage-inspired festival environment For the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority at Sheikh Zayed Festival 2020. The project combined architectural character, public engagement, and operational functionality within a cohesive temporary setting.
The environment was shaped around a strong traditional visual language, with fortress-style façades, perimeter walls, towers, entry gateways, branded touchpoints, market-style zones, seating areas, and stage elements. The result was a welcoming, high-visibility destination designed to support visitor interaction in a busy festival setting.

Design Approach
The design language drew from traditional regional architecture to create an immediately recognizable and culturally aligned setting. Strong geometric forms, textured finishes, crenellated walls, arched openings, and tower elements gave the environment a clear identity, while the overall layout supported both public circulation and functional activation zones.
Visitor Experience
The space was organized to feel open, legible, and inviting. A prominent entry created strong arrival impact, while internal zones supported browsing, gathering, and informal engagement. Seating areas added comfort, retail-style bays encouraged exploration, and the stage component helped extend the experience beyond static display into live activation and audience interaction.
Challenges & Solutions
A project of this nature required balancing themed scenic impact with practical festival operations. The environment needed to feel immersive at scale while remaining clear, durable, and suitable for public use. We addressed this by integrating architecture, fabrication detailing, circulation planning, and on-site execution into one coordinated delivery process.
Production & Execution
We coordinated design, fabrication, finishing, logistics, and installation as a unified workflow. From the primary gateway and perimeter build to lounge furniture, signage, and activation zones, each element was produced to maintain consistency across the full site environment. This integrated approach supported quality control, installation efficiency, and a cohesive final result.
Results & Impact
The completed project delivered a distinctive, culturally resonant festival environment that elevated the authority’s public presence within one of Abu Dhabi’s most prominent seasonal destinations. It demonstrated our ability to engineer and execute large-scale themed environments that combine identity, functionality, and visitor engagement with precision and operational control.
