Project Overview
Al Asouf TV Series Set Construction delivered in Abu Dhabi in 2019 for MBC Group. The production required a large-scale replica of Al Kaaba, along with set elements inspired by Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. As a result, the set created a realistic environment for filmed scenes.
Tarweej delivered the project as an integrated scenic build. The scope combined structural fabrication, architectural finishes, decorative details, and site coordination. Therefore, the final environment looked convincing on screen while also supporting efficient assembly, finishing, and filming.
What We Delivered
Tarweej delivered a coordinated scenic environment for television production, including:
- Large-scale replica construction of Al Kaaba
- Set elements inspired by Masjid al-Haram
- Exterior scenic cladding and draped finish treatments
- Interior colonnades, arches, and prayer-space-style layouts
- Custom doors, screens, lanterns, and decorative features
- Marble-look, stone-look, and textured scenic finishes
- Structural framing, staged assembly, and on-site installation
Design Approach
The design approach focused on turning iconic sacred architecture into a controlled scenic environment for screen use. First, Tarweej developed the large architectural forms and patterned details. Then, the team integrated colonnades and layered finishes to strengthen visual recognition. At the same time, the set remained practical to fabricate and install. This balance helped the environment feel substantial, coherent, and camera-ready.
On-Screen Realism
Because the set was built for television, visual credibility was the main priority. Instead of focusing on public interaction, Tarweej focused on how the environment would appear on camera. For example, exterior forms, interior details, surface finishes, and decorative features worked together to create depth, scale, and authenticity. As a result, the set delivered a realistic screen presence across both wide shots and close scenes.
Challenges & Solutions
The project required careful handling of highly recognizable architectural references. However, the team also had to maintain construction efficiency, finish consistency, and filming practicality. Tarweej solved this through disciplined fabrication planning, controlled scenic finishing, and close site coordination. Consequently, the full set maintained visual continuity while supporting smooth assembly and reliable production use.
Production & Execution
Tarweej coordinated fabrication, finishing, transport, and installation through one managed workflow. In addition, the team aligned structural build-up, architectural detailing, and final surface treatment across every stage. This approach helped maintain consistency across large scenic surfaces and intricate decorative components. Meanwhile, close coordination on site supported efficient execution and a polished final result.
Results & Impact
The completed project delivered a visually convincing replica environment for Al-Asouf and supported the production with a high-finish set built for screen realism. Moreover, the project demonstrated Tarweej’s ability to engineer and execute culturally specific scenic environments with precision, integrated fabrication, and calm operational control.
